Minnesota Columbian Squires

Over 75 years of providing support to thousands of young men on their way to adulthood.
Under the guidance of Christian Brother Barnabas McDonald (1865-1929), the first Columbian Squires circle was instituted in 1925 by Council 447 in Duluth. Membership in the Squires is for Catholic boys between the ages of 10 and 18 who are baptized and practicing Catholics.
The Columbian Squires has over 25,000 members in 1100 +circles, located in the U.S., Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.
Squires' activities are many, varying from spiritual to active service for the Church and community. Each circle elects officer members from their own rank, teaching skills of leadership and responsibility. The highest ranking Squire is the Chief Squire.
Adult staff or counsellors, are all Knights and are led by the Chief counsellor. A priest or father prior provides spiritual guidance to the Squires.
A circle has four standing committees - spiritual, service, circle and membership. Each committee is expected to conduct four activities a year.
Squires run there own meetings, plan and financially support their own activities. These responsibilities give them an early start in life with leadership qualities. Once given the opportunity, adults are amazed at what these kids can do.
The Squires can also help boys who may need special guidance and encouragement.
As Knights we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who are the future generation of our Faith, our Country and our World. Support our boys by starting a Circle or reactivating a Circle today. They in turn will support and be proactive in your Parishes and Council.
To charter a new circle or reactivate an old one, there must be at least 10 boys.
